Although this pitch was not selected for LIAF trailer, the pitch meetings were still amazing and educative. I have been reminded to mention sound and music design in the storyboard, and also to provide GIF examples to the clients to give them certain expectations about my animating. What is more important is a confident verbal narrative and a clear plan for collaboration.
I suppose the pitches that were selected are more challenging and more serious, and was better prepared. Anyway, I’ll record my pitch down here.
LOGLINE
My project is Drifting Away for Being Human. It is a 2D animation with comprehensive materials.
The story is about a daydream or mind wandering when the tube suddenly stopped on the way to work.

It is based on my first impressions of London: the underground cabin crowed with all kinds of people like an aquarium, and the big cranes over the building opposite to CSM, which look like fishing among the clouds. I combine the two ideas to make up the story:
STORYBOARD

One morning, the protagonist went to the underground station. The camera goes up to show the big cranes over the clouds.
In the next shot, lights flash back, and we can see the cabin full of passengers.
With the sound of brake, the tube stopped in sudden.
The red background stands for the character’s inside world. The protagonist noticed that someone began to stamp his feet.
As time went by, the still atmosphere and being late for work made the protagonist feel like drown in the water.

Imagination came true. Water flows into the cabin and slowly rose up. In the end, everyone and everything were floating under the water.
Suddenly a hook appeared in front of eyes and everyone were pulled out into the sky by the crane.
The characters were flying, dancing, missing in the clouds…

Thats the end of the day dream. The train started again, running into the light.
TECHNIQUE
- Generally 2D animation
- Comprehensive media
- Team members can design their own characters (in different styles and techniques) to show the diversity of passengers

I come up with this concept art to show how different styles of characters appear in the same scene.

MUSIC REFERNCE
This is a no dialogue film, with sound effect and light music. Here’s the music reference I may use in the day dream part:
